Please find below a message from the Council's Chief Executive which he has asked Councillors to share with their constituents in #Cardiff. Any questions or queries relating to #Rhiwbina, please let me know. You can also What's App me on 07970 013332.
Dear Members,
I write to update you on the ongoing work taking place across the council and the pre-emptive decisions being taken as we begin to move into the period covered by the Met Office weather warnings associated with the approaching #StormDarragh.
Council teams are clearing the gullies in areas of the city which are prone to surface water flooding, and we are issuing advice to residents.
Crews responded to calls overnight to clear fallen trees and will remain on standby during the storm period.
Due to the severity of the Met Office weather warnings, the council will prioritise essential service delivery tomorrow. Business Continuity plans have been activated across our essential services, including Social Services, Housing (including homelessness provision); Telecare; Meals on Wheels; Highways; and Harbour Authority.
Public advice and service updates are being communicated via our social media channels and website. Met Office warnings are also being shared. I would encourage you and your constituents to follow the council’s social media accounts for regular updates. There is a webpage available via the homepage of www.cardiff.gov.uk summarising service changes as a result of Storm Darragh.
In order to protect the safety of the public, the following non-essential services will close to the public:
Household Waste Recycling Centres Closed Saturday and Sunday - residents who have a booking are being contacted.
Hubs and Libraries Closed Saturday
Waste Collections Suspended on Saturday
Cardiff Castle Closed Saturday
Cemeteries Closed Saturday
Cardiff Dogs Home Closed to the public on Saturday
Cardiff International White Water High Ropes Closed Saturday
The operators of Winter Wonderland (both sites - City Hall and Cardiff Castle), Bute Park Light Trail and the Working Street Christmas attractions have all taken the decision to close. Stallholders have agreed that Cardiff Indoor Market will remain closed tomorrow.
City centre businesses with outside seating areas are being visited this afternoon and our warden teams will be present in the city centre all day tomorrow.
River levels continue to be monitored, and teams are on standby to respond to issues at known high-risk areas. If you have anything to report please call 029 2087 2087, so that the problem can be logged and tracked.
We are also signposting residents to our flood page for advice and useful links online, and to the page on reporting problems with trees.
The advice is for the public to avoid any unnecessary travel, and I would be grateful if you could share that with your constituents.
